About this app

A set of offline tools to help with writing poems (currently only English is supported):

* a rhyming dictionary, using the Carnegie Mellon University pronunciation dictionary.
* a thesaurus, using the WordNet thesaurus.
* a dictionary, using the WordNet dictionary.
* a screen where you can enter your poem text, have it read aloud back to you by the device's text-to-speech engine, and see the word/character count.

The dictionaries are built in the app. No internet connection is required to use them.

The app is offline: your data is only stored locally on your device, unless you choose to export or share it. The Poet Assistant app doesn’t send your data to any server.

This app is open source: https://github.com/caarmen/poet-assistant

Permissions:
* Since 1.5.0, the app has the "run at startup" permission for the "Word of the day" feature. If you enable this feature in the settings, when the device reboots, the app makes sure the "word of the day" notification is still scheduled.

I'm going to give it 5 stars because it does exactly what it should and does it with ease; no ads, no internet connection. It's great. If you write or study this is a must have app. My request is this: 1. I'd like to see the back button not close out of the app, but rather go back to the last selection or menu you've tapped. 2. If like to see the rhyme section have looser options and rhyme schemes (alternative option to toggle). If your a poet, most rhymes aren't going to be precise. Thanks!

It's a good app with rhymes and such, and it includes a dictionary and thesaurus too. The main problem is that the back button closes the app, and that's just really inconvenient and not user friendly, thus making me uninstall and never touching this app again. In the future you definitely need to have that function in order for the app to be user friendly. It's a real inconvenience, which I don't like.

I am completely serious when I say that, as a writer, this is one of the single most used apps on my phone. I have it open more often than my notes app. Seriously. It's streamlined, excellent, and accessible. While there are some issues, especially with some thesaurus entries seemingly missing and not being able to find near-rhymes, those minor issues are nowhere near enough to bring this app -- which I consider practically essential to my process now -- down to 4 stars.
